World Book Night US

A huge success in the UK, World Book Night is making its way to the US! Today all around the country volunteers are giving away ONE MILLION FREE BOOKS. Yes, you read it right – one million free books. With the help of every book publisher, UPS, American Library Association, Barnes & Noble, independent bookstores around the country, Ingram, and 5,000 volunteers, books are being given to people who might not have the money, time, or capability to buy books – such as nursing homes, hospitals, shelters, and community centers.

World Book Night is a celebration of reading, and today tens of thousands of people will share books with others in their communities across America, spreading the joy and love of reading. The thirty books on this year’s list were chosen by a panel of independent booksellers, Barnes & Noble buyers, and librarians. The honorary national chairperson is Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and bestselling author Anna Quindlen.

And Algonquin was lucky enough to have A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick selected for this year! Check out www.us.worldbooknight.org for the full list.
