Hi The Loopy Librarian,
Thanks so much for your question!
I like to think that the book allows the reader to come up with new questions about our society’s ideas of race, culture, beauty and how we define family. I hope the reader comes away with a sense that s/he has connected with the struggles of the characters whether or not s/he shares the same background. :) heidi
